Ok, I have found an 88 Force 125HP Outboard w/Power Tilt/Trim...the top 1/2 (block) has been sold, so its just the lower 1/2 mounted on the boat still.

The guy wants $250.00 for it and the controls go with it.

Obviously, I'm thinking about picking it up as my 86 85HP Force doesn't have Power T/T and I would love it. Supposedly it worked before it was parted out, so either the lower unit is shot, or the block was, b/c I can't think as to why else the boat is being parted out. (Its an 18 ft '88 Maxum CC, and its in bad bad shape.)

My thought was that I would offer $175.00...but...$250 for just the Power T/T would be a good deal in itself.

Thoughts?

Well, engines ALWAYS were working when they were stored or put into storage and the power trim ALWAYS was working too!

In reality, you must take a battery with you and test the motor and even that won't tell you much because the unit is not under load. With no top end, you don't get the electronics. You need to assume that the trim will need rebuilding, and you don't know the condition of the lower unit. Of course, if you have a decent photo of the trim unit, you can tell a lot: If it shows a lot of corrosion, the cylinder mounts on the trim are most likely cold welded and you would need to cut them off.

While a good and complete power trim would be worth somewhere around 3-400 bucks, even at 175 you are doing the seller a favor, unless you can be shown that it is functioning. Ultimately, the choice is yours. But if it has a decent lower unit on it, then the 175 is fair. Price really depends upon the needs and wants of the buyer --you know, supply and demand.
