What do you think the best sounding company in marine audio? I understand that the speakers have alot to do with this as well but practicality being able to adjust settings and maximum loudness with clarity before amps. I am just wondering this because my receiver finally got toasted, accidentally turned it on while I had the battery charger going now it faintly makes noise. thanks in advance

This should not have caused any problem.

maximum loudness with clarity before amps.
So you are not going to use a separate amp? If not, then you want the most watts from the unit itself. 60 x 4 or similar is what I'd want.

I will eventually step up with amp I have a pontoon boat with 4- 6 1/2's right now eventually one 10 inch sub and a couple more 6 1/2's I will be set to rock out the river but for now I'm going with the head unit and piecing it together. I just need a little sound for right now until I figure out how exactly the schematic will be.

I've had nothing but Kenwood in my boat and it sounds great. I would get some distortion in the low-end at higher volume levels, but adding a sub to take the bass from the 4 main speakers solved that problem.

Look for the highest wattage in the receiver and the highest sensitivity in your speakers, if you are only going for loud.

For a head unit these days, you mainly want durability. They all have about the same 50Wx4 internal amp. The main difference is that some last years, some barely last a month.

Sony = Junk
Kenwood = Eh.. alright
Clarion = Super durable

The real part of your sound comes with amps and speakers. I highly recommend everything in my signature.
