bought me a 1986 smoker craft with a 60 hp mercury hanging on back. only a small issue, when i've been trolling a couple of hrs and let it idle out of gear, it stalls when i put it in gear. i have to give it full throttle to start again and then i have to get it into gear in a hurry.
i called the local marine mechanic around here and he said he won't work on this motor because it has three cylinders and two carbs, and that he wouldn't feel confident working on it.
the motor goes real good at WOT (35 mph on a 17footer) and trolls nice, i do think i hear a "flutter" once in a while be it seems to just pick them off most the time.
is this a bad motor to work on ?
is it worth keeping ? i mean damn, it's been cooking along for over 25 yrs with what looks like few issues.
your opinions would be most welcome.
