opinons ?

bought me a 1986 smoker craft with a 60 hp mercury hanging on back. only a small issue, when i've been trolling a couple of hrs and let it idle out of gear, it stalls when i put it in gear. i have to give it full throttle to start again and then i have to get it into gear in a hurry.
i called the local marine mechanic around here and he said he won't work on this motor because it has three cylinders and two carbs, and that he wouldn't feel confident working on it.

the motor goes real good at WOT (35 mph on a 17footer) and trolls nice, i do think i hear a "flutter" once in a while be it seems to just pick them off most the time.
is this a bad motor to work on ?
is it worth keeping ? i mean damn, it's been cooking along for over 25 yrs with what looks like few issues.

your opinions would be most welcome.

JMO....two hours of low speed trolling without " loading" up the spark plugs is a long time for an older two stroke. Mine would only go about 20 minutes...then I would shift into neutral, raise the engine speed to 2K to clean the plugs off and continue tolling.

You might want to think about getting a kicker or trolling motor. Trolling any larger 2 cycle marine motor for that long is asking for problems.

Bump^1 on wired247 and smittylv1 responses. The older larger 2 strokes will load up and foul the plugs, along with more carbon buildup on the pistons. Not a good practice for reliable motor use. All oil mixed gas will do this when run at idle for long periods. Best to get a smaller kicker motor for trolling and it will be easier to control your speed and save the big motor. JMO
