I have a 87 16' open bow seaswirl I have 3 outboards to choose from. I would like relaiablility I know this is directly related to how you care for you equipment Im very perticular 1 is a 1985 85 hp force seems to run ok comp is 130 per cylinder I did notice a small (looks like unspent fuel) on the top of the lower unit where it bolts to the leg (possible seal issue?) 2 a 1972 85hp thunderbolt keifer mercury. it needs a lower unit houseing the gears itself are fine it was dropped and the housing were the prop shaft slides in wont accept retaing screw. 3rd is a 1992 150hp force spark issues. as you can see each one neds some attention but looking for opnions on wich one would be the bext to put money into BTW the other 2 have good and even comp as well

imho, none of them, force are not rated well, horrible history. the 1972, has parts availability issues, especially spark.

So you picked two duds and another that needs major repair. Why not just buy a good running newer (80's - 90's) Johnson, Evinrude, Merc, Yammy, Suzy or anything except the Force and a very aging Merc. At least those engines you can get parts for if needed.
