my starboard 200 opti went fluky yesterday, it started when the tach was about 100 rpms higher than the other, then it peg at 7k then spun all the way around, the volt meter went to 10 . I did not feel any warm or hot wires ,wires indicating a dead short, then the volt meter would bounce between 10 volts to 13,5 or so as I was running around 3k rpm. I wiggle all the wires , check the grounds while this was going on and no change, this went all for a hour or so ,then it came out of it like it never happened and I ran it for 3 more hours with no problem.I am leaning to the ignition switch as seeing the volt meter at 10 and no apparent dead short it appears to be like having the key off. one thing I did do last week was spray some crap into the switch as it was getting sticky , any ideas ??

Re: opti ignition

Clean and tighten the battery connections. It's unlikely to be a switch problem. More likely an alternator or battery problem.

Re: opti ignition

Checked the battery , its fine, did not chk the alt connections but will, was leaning towards the swich as the motor was running and the voltage dropped to 10 volts like someone turned the key off, I felt if it was the alt the battery should still read whatever volts it has left in it, after I shut the key off it would read 12 volts , then i would take off and after a few minse it would start jumping all over the place, its agravating as it ran fine for the next three hours
