Anybody used one of these before? Seems like they would be safer to use than an inductive tach. Also cheaper.

The optical tach works, but is sometimes hard to get a consistent reading. I have used both. For hardcore tuning I would use an inductive tach. The optical is good for general purpose stuff.

I just bring home my digital advance timing light from work when I need it. It reads out RPM along with the timing light/advance functions.
