So I will need one new battery this year. Question for the people that have had optima batteries before. Are they worth the extra $$?

Re: optima batteris

I've had Optimas in my race cars for years and when the batts in the boat need replacing I will be replacing them with optimas.

Re: optima batteris

I had a optima red top, hands down the best battery I have ever used. I could put that thing in anything, and it never hesitated to crank it over. I also used it a lot with my trolling motor and i could spend all day on the lake with a single charge.

I will be buying another one.

Re: optima batteris

When the Interstate in my boat gives it up I'll likely replace it with an Optima or another brand of AGM battery.

Re: optima batteris

Well the son has been out of work since June (42 year old journeyman electrician). We were changing the oil in his truck (used the oil I had set aside for my wife's truck) and I happened to notice this red battery that looked like the wheat silo's you see in Kansas. I assumed it was what you are talking about or something in that price range.

This guy is living here and all, getting all his living expenses and bills paid by us plus spending money.............Just got under my skin that I can't afford anything like that but he can....no he can't.....his toys are the reason he has nothing to tide him over when the going gets rough.

So I had to smack him with my snide remark and he said that he wanted something reliable. I said that the last Dodge truck I had was 10 years old when I traded it in for the current one and it still had the factory Mopar battery that never once failed me.

I use Wally and Autozone batteries and have had nothing but good luck in my boat and my trucks when the OEMs fail.

Sorry, just had to rant.

I had a red top Optima in Sunshine III. Performed well. Some RATAKRATZA stole it.

Didn't have bux for another so I put an Everstart Marine Maxx dual purpose in for a small fraction of the cost of the Optima.

Yeah. Performed every bit as well and nobody stole it. I have used only Everstart since.

Re: optima batteris

I had a ret top optima given to me a few years ago, by a neighbor who was selling an old car it was in and I was in need of a battery. He swore it never failed him, but it wasn't worth a crap to me. If I remember correctly, it was maybe about 5 yrs old.

I am now at the point it looks as if I have to replace both my trolling batteries in my boat as they don't seem to be taking a charge from my charger. I looked at the date and they were manufactured in 2003 and both are Walmart marine 72mo batteries.

I will also point out, I bought a sealed gel type battery for a jetski about 6yrs ago, it was good for about 1-2 seasons, just like my other batteries for the ski that were half the price.

I'm pretty much done buying anything except walmart batteries... I just don't see the point spending twice as much and not getting at least twice the life. This wasn't asked, but I also have O'reily batteries in both of my vehicles and both batteries suck and give me issues if left sitting too long. Too long equals a week at max! Had one in a pickup, that I sold, same story. I would replace them under warranty for free and same issues, even had one truck tested for electical drain and it came back with no problems, just bad battery, so replaced under warranty, two batteries later, same issues....

Re: optima batteris

I don't no much about Wal-mart batteries, but i've tried several other deep cycles ,and when I tried Optima, I was Impressed with the extra time on water trolling, They seem to take more re-charges than others too, last me years. But everyone has there Opinion and my Opinon is there great batteries. We also have to remember some people take better care of there batteries than others, correct charging, no over charges, no under charging, Keeping them up in non use times ect. When I find something that impresses me, I stay with it, till something better is proved to me I'll stick with the Optima's

I have an Optima blue top M1000 starting battery for each of my two boats. They are just over 7 years old and still going strong.
