Through a comedy of errors I wound up with a spare, new Optima OPT8016-103 Batteries D34M blue top battery. Would that make a decent battery to use for starting my outboard? I've got an aging lead-acid in there now.

Thanks

I wouldnt use an optima battery if you paid me since JCI took over their quality dropped

However if you got the battery, use it until it fails.

I'm sorry to hear that about this brand. Lot of that going around. I'm going to use it and see- can't beat the price!

Might as well....you have nothing to loose.
I've since switched over to RV batteries (deep cycle) with very good results. 10 years on last pair

the enersys brands of batteries are the best in the world. this includes hawker (used by the military) and odyssey used in many off-shore boats. I made the mistake of spec'ing optima batteries for 6000 pieces of equipment because the salesman guaranteed they would be equal to the Hawkers and even sold us an adapter to mount the batteries. that was a warranty nightmare as there was a significant failure rate
