Optimax 225

What is the general thought of Mercury optimax 225,because of the warranty problems l have been having with my evinrude fitch,l am going to ditch it, cut my losses, :mad: l have made enquiries of an Optimax,(new) is it a tried and tested engine? l can find no negative strings on the net,so thoughts please,by the way l am from the UK so customer satisfaction is still a long way away here :(

hello<br /> I am not a merc dealer anymore but I still service a lot of them and while its true they earned a reputation as an "Opti-pop" they seem to work well now. I think the technical term merc people used was "Pre-mature powerhead failure:). they are more maintenence intensive than a EFI or carbed model but all of the DFI motors are. the fourstrokes have some issures but so far I have not seen major failures. for my money plain EFI without o2 sensors, or carbs work and work well for years and years. good luck and maybe do a optimax search
