Optimax Alarm Voltage

I have an odd question. I just bought a boat with 200 Optimax. Up under the helm there is a small piezo alarm that beeps on Key on, as well as under other faulted conditions.

My issue - I told you this was going to be odd - my dog is deathly afraid of loud beeps. I think it goes back to a faulty smoke detector years ago when she was home alone. She is so frightened she almost convulses at certain sounds.

So, I want to look into options. Does anyone know off hand what the voltage on the buzzer is? One option I thougth of is to do away with the alarm and put in an LED in the dash to serve the function. Another option is to change it to a piezo buzzer that has a lower tone. Finally, if anyone knows if the key on signal can be over rode. I really like the idea of the problem conditions sounding off, just dont want Bailey to freak out ever time I turn the key on.

Any ideas would be welcome. Thanks.

Re: Optimax Alarm Voltage

I would have to assume it would be a 12v buzzer. I would keep the sound, Because it's the best warning you'll have vs. an led light. as far as the dog goes, i'm personally unaware of a different style of buzzer you could use as an alarm, maybe someone could chime in on that... check out automotive store maybe?

Re: Optimax Alarm Voltage

One thing for sure....you have to resolve alarm noise problem as you'll hear it frequently as long as you own an Optimax. They are problematic and 95% of Mercury mechanic's are clueless on how to work on them. I know a guy who had all the fancy certificates from MERC who replaced the WATER PUMP to correct what turned out to be a defective IGNITION COIL. Now two years later he is the lead mechanic at a BASS PRO outlet.:p
