Optimax on board oil reservoir

I had a continuous alarm from my 2010 200HP Optimax. I was able to power off engine and set the gear shift to neutral. When I started the engine again there was no alarm and I was able to bring the boat to plane and return to the dock without incident.

I removed the cowl and I am thinking the on board oil reservoir is low/empty. The larger tank under the seat is about half full. The reservoir plastic is a milky color so I can't be sure unless I remove the cap and peek inside. I know this is a pressurized system so I am a little unsure how to go about this. Can I get some help please?

Re: Optimax on board oil reservoir

A steady alarm is overheat, a repetitive beeping is an oil alarm.

With the engine turned off, you can just remove the cap and check. Its pressurized when the engine is running just from the remote tank being pressurized by the engine to force oil up into the engine mounted tank. Taking the cap off and putting it back on won't hurt anything.

If it is low, then you need to see why the remote tank isn't getting pressure to force oil up there.
