I have twin 2001 150 Optimax's. Generally, very good engines and very fuel efficient. 2 weeks ago, I crossed to West End Grand Bahama, stayed for 4 wonderful days. The whole time, the boat ran well except that on the second day, I started the engine and the Smartcrafts reported a failed throttle position sensor and said I was in "limphome mode". I was concerned, but the engine ran fine for the remainder of the trip, including the crossing back to Palm Beach. I ordered the TPS.
Last weekend (the TPS still on order) I used the boat for a local cruise - after reading the details of Limphome, I was not too concerned. However, I throttled up and after cruising at 4000RPM for aboout 5 miles, the port engine (the same one with the TPS error) shut down - just like the key was shut off. The gauages all looked normal, with no errors being displayed. I refired, and it ran well for another 10 minutes or so, then shut down again. It kept doing so, until I ultimately just limped home on the starboard engine. Interestingly though, the TPS error, which had been on solidly, was now gone.
My question is, is it possible the TPS was failing at high RPM's and causing the engine to shut down, or do I likely have another problem?
Thanks,
Paul
