I had ordered a rebuilt 40hp early 1990's Johnson o/b with controls and wireharness from Blackbird Enterprises Inc (a rebuilder). Picked up the o/b from Fedex Freight and when unwrapped it was an 1993 Evinrude 40hp. I know from the manual I bought that they are basically the same. I don't really care if it is a Johnson or an Evinrude, but I can't seem to find any difference between the two other than the color of the paint the the stickers! Mine is the dark metalic blue.

Is there a difference I am unaware of?

BTW the quality looks very good. Besides the rebuild of the internals, I see things they didn't mention. Like all new hoses and plastic parts like air intake. New carbs, rebuilt starter, fresh external paint job, stainless steering link arm, new gas/oil connection, and various other bits and pieces are new. Can't tell about the wire harness. Looks like all the ends are new and the wrap is new, but can't tell about the wires themselves.

Probably won't get to run it this season, so I'm goint to put some oil in the cylinders and crank it over by hand. I'm keeping it in the garage, so I can turn it over every now and again through the winter to keep the parts oiled. Let me know if you think this is a bad idea.

Thanks,

Mark42.
