My wife passed away yesterday,BUT this is not for your condolences.

Amoung the calls that came in,one was from Jamie who said she was from an organ donor bank.My immediate responce was to hang up,but I let her continue. As we talked,my mind cleared, and yes,my wife had signed up to be an organ donor.I knew that.

I am so glad I stayed on the line.My wife may be able to help others as she wished. While not all organs go to transplants, just the thought of her eyes helping someone see ........

The call seems like bad timing, but the organs have to be taken within hours,to be of use.

They do have you go through a 15 - 20 minute questionare but that is my small donation towards what my wife has done.

Not all organs are usable, and yes, some are used for research.

If you want, they will notify you if an organ is used, and how.

As for funeral purposes, the replace any organs with prostetics,so that is not a concern.

I'm just glad I didn't hang up on Jamie, and I hope she realizes this.

Just a heads up to all,

DHP

Re: Organ Donations

Sorry for your loss. Being a donor is a very wise and smart thing to do. My wife and I are planned donors as well. God Bless you DHP, she did the right thing.

Re: Organ Donations

The funny thing the other night my wife and i were taliking about this subject.
It brought up a lot of mixed fealings. For me i think its a good thing that some of my remains may be able to live on or help farther medical science. My wife on the other hand felt that it was wrong (for any cause). She felt it was disrespecting the person who passed on.

sorry about your loss

Sorry for your loss.
My wife is a donor as well.I will go as far as donating blood every 56 days, but I have this stupid fear that if I sign a donor card they may well slice me up before I am really dead.So no it is not for me.

Re: Organ Donations

Sorry for your loss and even though you didn't ask you and your family will be in my prayers tonight.

I filled out a donor card years ago but too much has changed in my life for it to be valid. I have however expresses my desires to all of my family members. I can't use it so why not?
