I been wanting an electric starting motor for a while. I jumped on a deal. $150 for it. Elderly lady said it was her father's and he bought it new. It's in amazing shape. Was put up winterized and been sitting for what she thought maybe 20-30 years?

Had wide check it out I'm otr right now .Turns over freely shifts fine as well. It's an original electric start motor which seems to be pretty rare.

I need help on info I would like to go through it as well as put fuel pump on it... I need help on finding information on this motor. Much appreciate if someone could should me some specs history or any thing you know about this engine

ask the folks at the aomci site "ASK A MEMBER" for data and go to the boat info red book for all technical info you need

http://www.boatinfo.no/ go to book stack down to johnson select red book print pages to PDF files for safe keeping

btw pics show it is already converted to pump

the 18hp uses 12v so the 15hp probably does also

the red book does not seem to talk much about the electrical FDE10 (1956)

yes probably a more rare model

One pic shows a fuel pump and one does not. So which is it? If not, does it have the original pressure fuel tank? If it has factory starter, it would be 6 volt in 1956. If starter was added later, it could be 12 volt. I think an Autolite 4001M was 6 volts. Check the solenoid. If it has 3 poles, it is a 6 volt system. The 12 volt systems had 4 pole solenoids.

there you go...

read somewhere that the 6v starter could tolerate short burts of 12volts to start but don't push it

the choke coil may burn up on 12v....:-(

see if you can upgrade the starter then or possibly install a resistor (ballast) in series on the choke coil to drop the volts

( a simple 12v light bulb may work as a ballast if you use both filaments in a brake/park light) give it a try measure volts going into the choke selenoid while choking )

....or get a 6 volt battery :)

The picture posted shows a starter with a band around the bottom. Those were 6V.

I think you're going to need one of those pressurized tanks. I don't see a fuel pump.

fuel pump pictured must be on another motor (note the non-ring gear flywheel). Unclear what's going on.
