I have a pair on networked LCX-25C

They both have issues with reading the depth in the weeds. They both loose track of bottom most of the time that I am 10 feet and shallower in the weeds. I have tried all the shallow water settings and upgraded the firmware a few different times. The problem doesn't seem as bad when I have a new transducer, but after about a year or 2 it's right back to the same old same old. The front graph transducer is mounted on the trolling motor. The counsel on the stern. They are 21' feet apart and don't have much interference to each other problems. I installed an RF filter on the power to both units and that helped them work while running the trolling motor. The front graph sonar wouldn't work at all before that when I ran the trolling motor.

Recently I found a different company making transducers for them. Airmar. They make a $130-$150 model. It is bigger then the OEM skimmer and looks like it would take a little more abuse then the OEM. I have broken of at least 5 already. JB welded a few even. Does anyone have any experience with these or another brand?

I also am in need of a transducer for a new boat for Lake Michigan. I have not been very succesfull at seeing fish when out deeper then 80 feet with the OEM skimmer. Anyone have any experience with this?

I noticed Airmar makes a higher wattage transducer, much larger physically too. I would think they would have to work better. However with a price tag of $700+ (the price I paid for the whole graph package), I can't justify it.

Thanks for any help,
Joe

Sounds like you have a problem with your power distribution system. You need to get that straightened out before you do anything.

Sounds like you have an issue in the head unit. The OEM transducer on your unit should have no problem seeing down 200-300ft in freshwater. Have you tried running the unit in manual mode?

My boat had an LCX 16i on it when I bought it. I never did get the unit to perform very well. I even upgraded the transducer and still had no confidence in the unit. I ended up selling the LCX and bought a Furuno. I installed an Airmar B164 with the unit. I can't say enough about the performance of this combo.

An Airmar P66 at about $120 should help your unit quite a bit.
