Has anyone had any experience with an aftermarket oil reservoir? I am looking at some on e-bay for 39.99 plus shipping. Is there still pressure on the system?(I mean is there a cap that has a one way check in it or something?) I considered making my own system but was unsure about using a vented cap or not. How hard would it be to install a factory type one on my boat? Mercruiser 140 hp alpha one gen 1. I currently have it torn down for bellows replacement.

Thanks

DougV>

Got a link or item number Doug?

Also, just bounce the price off www.mercstuff.com to make sure you are getting a deal if you decide to pull the trigger.

Not sure. He says he is using them on his Formula with Alpha 1s. Those pics look just like my engine compartment on my Formula so I think he's telling the truth.

I installed one on a searay I used to own and if I can do it,anyone can!!!The connector went through the hull just above the water line and connects to the vent hole on the upper part of the drive. There is a cannister inside the hull with a cap that has a check valve on top.I used the one that Merc. sells. It came with very easy instructions including a template for the hole in the hull. charlie

OK, So I was Wrong......
You Just have to Drill Another hole in your boat,+ Mount Another oil line to Snag fish lines On....
I guess it would be fine for a dock boat... I see it as a Waste of time + Money for a trailer boat....
I'd think that by the time any water migrated up that little oil line to Show Up in the Res., You'd have AlReady Done Plenty of internal Damage... Water is Heavier than Oil... Remember....

Re: oudrive oil reservoir

Bondo, the setup actually worked out great for me.i had a leak in a seal and could not afford at the time to fix it or i didnt want to tie up the boat for a week,I cant remember.Anyway ,it continually fed the outdrive with fresh gear lube without any water intrusion. It was about a $59 kit at the time and took me about an hour to install. The feeder line runs along the transom,so it never snagged anything. For me it worked great and i had the drive resealed over the winter.
