Our hair salon is in a small strip center and two doors down is a T-Mobile store. Yesterday, I was out front working at the back of my SUV and I noticed two guys get out of a car at the street. One tall black guy with dreds and another, shorter and stocky . The car drove off and they started walking toward the shops. The guy with dreds was pulling a carry-on sized suitcase behind him. They just seemed out of place and something told me I should keep an eye on them.
I wanted to make sure they didn?t approach my shop, and I watched them until they entered the T-Mobile store. They seemed to walk in normally, so I dismissed it and went on working. About a minute later a police car pulls up and stops at the end of the parking lot. Then I see two T-Mobile employees come around the side of the building and shout something to the cop.
He walked down toward the store, then came back. The employees said something else to him and he went running for the store. I had gone inside my salon but when I saw him running, I went outside. By that time, the officer was holding the door of the store open, and with his gun drawn (low ready position), was shouting to those inside. Then he went in.
At that point, backup arrived, and went in the store. They came out just after that with Mr. Dreds in cuffs and put him in the car. Apparently, the other guy bolted out the back. Chris, the store manager came out and walked down to our shop, still wearing the cable ties the perps used to tie him and another employee up. When I cut them off him, his hands were turning blue. He said the guys entered, put a gun to his head and tied them up. Chris got hit several times with the butt of the gun. Luckily, two of the employees were out back smoking and upon coming back in, saw what was happening, took off, and called 911. That?s why the cop showed up so fast. They caught the other guy about 20 minutes later, several blocks away.
Chris was surprisingly calm, but when the cop that went in first came down a couple of minutes later, I could see he hadn?t come all the way down from his adrenaline rush. Everyone was OK and two bad guys are now off the street. But it?s a scary thing. It could have been any of our stores.
BTW, Mrs. Kick Back and I are waiting for our carry permits to arrive.
Just to lighten this up a bit, Chris did tell his employees he will never complain about them smoking again.
Sea ya?
