My wife and I decided back in July to sell our Aquasport and tackle a new project, a 1978 Angler 16.8' center console. We had seen the hull on Craigslist for months and just couldn't resist the challenge any longer. It has had a complete glass and gelcoat restoration performed by Saxby Marine and Fiberglass Fabrication in Venice, Fl, where they replaced most of the wood with composite materials, filled all the holes, installed a new console, and finished her off with 11 coats of sea mist green and white gelcoat with a nice custom splatter inside and on the tops of the front deck and gunnels. We spent the next four months rigging her out with all stainless hardware and some classic looking white faced gauges, and topped her off with a nice Kenwood sound system. Finishing Touch outboards in Astor, FL built us a nice 2003 Mercury 75hp, bored .30 over with 90hp carbs and a 19 pitch stainless prop. needless to say she moves along pretty well! We are really looking forward to hitting Disappearing Island at Ponce Inlet Real soon in our new ride! Thanks for looking! MB

If you don't mind me asking what did it cost to have a shop create such a beauty out of a rotten heap? Us who have restored rotten heaps ourselves would like to know.

We actually purchased the bare hull from Saxby Marine with the glass and gel work already done for $4500. They had restored it to showcase their work and had since taken on enough big projects that they no longer needed the hull as an example.

Very nice resto! Question though. The pic from the bow has the console tilted slightly to port. Is it just the pic? Maybe it wasn't attached yet?

Thanks everyone! And your right snowman, the console wasn't bolted down yet in that picture. We're installing the last of the electronics, trim tabs, and the cupholders( very important!) and taking her out for her first full day outing this weekend. We can't wait!

Thanks everyone. We've installed the Nauticus Smart Tabs, and have to say, they made a huge difference! Great hole shot, no bow rise, smooth handling, and, most importantly, no more porpoising! Oh, and we got the cupholders in! I've got a new Lowrance unit I have to get installed and have to get some cushions made for the seat in the front of the console, but she took her second shake down trip today and performed great so I'd say she's about done.
