Our trip to Sag Harbor, NY

After a day out on the water, we cruised the Sag Harbor cove and marina taking pictures of some beautiful big hardware. Totally breath taking, especially when viewed from a 16 foot cuddy. I'm almost always the smallest boat around, but people always wave as we go buy. They probably think we're "cute". :)

Talk about sleek...

Re: Sag Harbor, NY

Wednesdays in the late afternoon the sailing club comes out for some competitions.

Took a stop at the bird sanctuary in Noyack to feed the birds. Look close and you can see a finch feeding from my daughters hand.

Next day we set out from the Sag Harbor marina. These are Billy Joel's fishing boats tied up next to the launch. Not sure about the green one, but the grey and orange boats are his.

Left the marina and took a 15 minute ride over to Shelter Island. Found this little cove in the park area. Only accessable by boat.

Re: Sag Harbor, NY

We drove out to Montauk to take a look around and buy some sea food from the boats coming in.

Storm was coming.

We sat on the jetty waiting for the boats to come in. Eric (5 yrs) and Amber (9 yrs) look on.

Soon the boats showed up.

It started to rain, so we left.

Mark42,

Great pictures, I noticed your profile says you are from NJ, where did you put your boat in? Did you trailer it to Long Island? I hear you about how people look at your boat, was in the CT river near the sound side last weekend, and saw some very large boats. A 50+ft boat was coming off plane and sent a 3-4 ft wake towards me in my 16ft bow rider. It was interesting, to say the least, but they waived.

I'm in Warren county, not far from PA. Its 160 miles from my house to Sag Harbor and takes about 3.5 hours. Not bad towing a boat. Usually go late in the evening so the Cross Bronx Expressway and LIE are not a parking lots.

Some of those yachts are a real pain in the butt even if they are far away. Their wake travels all the way across the bay and you get hit with a series of huge rollers out of nowhere. Hate that.

So you put in at Sag Harbor? I would like to have a bigger boat, to cross the sound and explore that area of Long Island, it looks really nice. That large yacht, was about to pass on my port, I said to my self, well that's nice he's on plane and not creating too much of a wake.... He came off plane about 250 in front of me.

If you can get across on a nice day (and bring lots of fuel!) the Shelter Island and Peconic Bay areas are really nice to cruise.
