I am doing the water pump and inspecting the gimble bearing today and wondering if it would be better to pull the lower unit before pulling the whole unit to inspect the gimble bearing. I have the manual but not very user friendly. Also changing the lower unit fluid.

thanks

Re: Out drive

i don't have a genII drive. but i find it much easier to reassemble the lower to the upper of my 1 drive when it's on the bench. as for pulling it. ease is about the same. when done together though it's much heavier. awkward too. make yourself a drive stand.. you'll love it.. + when ya put the drive back on, lower and upper together, it'll allow you to get straight with the bell housing for install.

ya must not have the mercruiser manual. get one here... http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=288430 look at #9, you want #14 for yer genII drive..

Re: Out drive

Build an outdrive stand,Then take it off in one piece. Then split it and replace the impeller and change the lube.I have found they go back on easier in one piece.J
