I have a 1988 stingray mercruiser 3.0 130hp alpha1. When I came in yesterday after 2hrs on the lake, I checked over everything as I always do, when I turned the prop left and right there was a clicking sound in the lower unit just behind the prop. What have I done this time??? Thanks

Re: Out drive

just to add: oil in lower unit is good, prop is worn down some, have new prop ordered, the clanking is right behind prop

Re: Out drive

ronjon...you don't mention that there were any problems while out on the lake. The clicking most likely is partial gear engagement due to slight out of adjustment of shift cable. With engine OFF, move shifter toward forward a little and check prop for clicking/engagement, move a little more and keep checking. Then do the same for reverse. I think you'll find that the cable is out of adjustment either toward forward or reverse, causing the "almost engaging" click that you describe. Hope it's that simple...

Re: Out drive

MrBill, thanks I went out and checked what you said, when I put the boat cover on yesterday it pushed the shift leaver foward some, when I centered it the clanking was not there. glad to know it wasn't bad lower unit. Thanks again
