I'm surprised how flat this boats wake is at WOT , seems like there is not much of the boat in the water . I noticed in the one pic you can see three distinct trails in a really clean lake .I realy love this little old boat .I just wonder if its making one at speed for the times I spend in no wake zones ? This is the second one I have and that one has no V in its hull . Both are really capable to run in shallow/skinny waters .

I have seen a lot of boats with throwing less wake than your picture shows. Can't tell how much boat is in the water from your picture. I have one boat that when WOT runs on about 1" of hull. No wake does not mean WOT because your hull throws minimal wake. It means idle to just above idle in my book and the USCGs.

Absolutely correct 88. No wake is defined as going the slowest possible speed while still being able to maintain steering/control of the vessel.

I wondered as some run trimmed different and faster , I always thought no wake was like in second pic when your bow v wave develops behind boat as to protect docked boats ,shore lines and dangerous constricted / congested area's ? Most I know idle but wasn't sure . Some jet ski's and hurried fisherman out of Port Clinton are pushing it to past making this pictured wave but smaller/slower . Going to look up meaning ,definition of wake .Thanks for replies .

If your talking about the 3rd picture of the hull with the red stripe taking from the boat with the blue interior it looks like its riding on about 5 feet of hull and not that impressive or flat of a wake IMHO. Not trying to be a jerk about it,just my observation of hulls running at speed over the years/

I don't think you're going to convince any authority that it's better that you run fast in no wake zones - I'm sure it's been tried. Just because others do it, doesn't mean it's right.

A canal we use, has 5, 10, 15, etc mph speed limits in various zones. But if I'm going 10 mph (stupid units for them to use), my boat is throwing a big wake - and I don't go that speed when passing docks, boats, etc. I would throw less wake at higher speeds, so I struggle with a 10 "mph" limit in open stretches of the canal where there's nothing but good site distance, and nothing around but bolder-lined channel. So I think I know what you're getting at

But I'm not sure what you mean by "out-running its wake"

Its a 20' CC with a 4 banger and only boat that I have seen that's in that class as a day cruiser and I am thinking about getting another like it after looking at a old Winner Viscount , I want to get it on a scale as it tracks good on Lake Erie and is easy enough to haul . I have run Lake Cumberland a lot too , your just not impressed as was just asking about other boats after spending hours in no wake zones and comparing speeds people run and their no wakes.

No Title

Avatar, boat in picture, 17' tin, 90 Merc, 13+x24XP Ballistic prop, 5800 rpm, 50 mph. I don't know which of the steps I'm running on but as stated, not much boat in the water to get a flat wake like yours and mine.

My reply has nothing to do with your subject of wake in a no wake zone. I am just commenting on your wake and the fun I had with my little boat when making my wake......which was not produced in a no wake zone or near anything or anyone.

Maybe if you articulated your question so we could understand it you might get better answers. NO you cannot run 20-100mph in a no wake zone. Your boat is throwing a wake in your picture, no matter how you measure it. Do yourself a favor and enroll in a boater safety course before putting key into the ignition switch of boat.

I just don't understand the correct definition of a wake wave as any boat will make or the speed what is allowed as I usually Idle thru with the bow down .Have boated since 1969 and have been learning currently left hand stick steering on an Airboat .

This is way less of a wake as it took about the third time . I was just stating how less damaging it would be for boats that can do this ,I would be worried about stability with 1" hull at WOT .

A wake is a wake, anything over a inch in height constitutes a wake....... Yes its on the edge ,150 hp in line Merc on the back of a 15 ft -350 lb tunnel hull trimmed out. Hit a wake, yes a friggin wake, haha and just about kited it into a backflip, quick hand on throttle is all that saved me. Matter of fact son was watching me from his boat and said most of the time you can see daylight under the hull, only thing touching is the lower unit. Mid life crisis 101 I guess. Haven't been out on her in two seasons, will register it next year before the "Thrill Is Gone".
