Just curious here if anyone has heard any rumors from manufacturers or the tournament circuits on outlawing 2 strokes period on US lakes in the future? I would be curious, if there is any merit to that, how in the world every 2 stroke running would hit the wall of no return like that. I heard something to the tune of the year 2025. I'm a bit concerned as I am in the works on finalizing specs on a boat order - with a set of eTec's. I could see production of 2 strokes being cut back, or off, but Evinrude does not make anything but a 2 stroke outboard (their smaller motors 15hp and down, not including the 15HO, are Tohatsu rebranded as Evinrude's) so if that side of it holds true that would eliminate the Evinrude line from the industry.
On the other side of the coin, if the regs are related to EPA emissions, that doesn't mean "2 stroke" across the board if a 2 stroke motor can be made to comply to the regs. That would only pertain to new motors, though, not past production. Like cars - a 1960's car that is still on the road isn't going to meet EPA regs in current times, but that doesn't necessarily mean it can't be driven (though, in some places, like Los Ageles, where tough emissions testing is done it might).
So I suppose I am not sure what to think.
