Outboard Bowriders?

I have decided that I would really like outboard power on my next boat. I need a larger bowrider to accommodate my growing family. I love the new Stingray 134LR but I don't want to drop that much money on a new boat so I have been checking the used market, but outboard bowriders are not easily found.

I need something in the 23'-26' range. Most manufactures limit their outboard offerings to 18'-19'.

can anyone think of some larger outboard powered bowriders similar to the Stingray? I looked at Edgewater but they are expensive.

Why? Going to be slim pickings, you are describing a boat that would be unnecessarily expensive when compared with an I/O

At that size and with outboard power, you want to look for a dual console, not a bowrider. That said, a Checkmate may be up your alley.

I agree with the Hurricane idea.

I will add Southwind.

I'm a huge fan of outboards and in my quest to find a bowrider with O/B power I tried an older Larson before I just got what I wanted in the first place. My Four Winns is "big" for an 18 footer but it is still just and 18 footer.

Checkmate makes a sporty bowrider in the 24' range. Immpressive boat with a big single outboard. They're made about an hour outside of Columbus (Bucyrus).

I didn't realize they were so close. Do you think they will offer me a neighbor discount???:D

Your last sentence -- but nothing like an EW.

Is Hurricane owned by the same parent company as Rinker? Their websites are built on identical templates.

The are both owned by "Nautic Global Group", a merger between Godfrey (who built my Hurricane) and Rinker.

outboards push boats up into the 30's length. You just need to broaden your thinking on the hull design.

Look at Sea Hunt and Grady White'sa dual consoles.

The best alternative is to get a center console with built in bow seating. Way more room per foot and way more comfortable than the cramped over-padded bow rider. Look at the pictures of new sea hunts, carolina skiff/sea chaser on line and you will see what I mean.

It's hard to tell, but it seems there's no space advantage with the Checkmate outboard. I wonder what's back there taking up all of that room?

That's where they store the excess style and testosterone.

Most DC boats will be expensive, even used ones. Southwind makes a very seaworthy line of outboard powered boats, with a reasonable price tag for used.

Re: Outboard Bowriders?

A "dual console" is a bowrider built on a salt-water hull. By that I mean heavier duty construction, self bailing (water runs out through scuppers), usually built it floatation (will swamp, but not sink), overboard drains for most or all compartments, better quality hardware and rigging etc. Hence why Grady-white, seahunt, edgewater, scout, robalo etc are around $100k new.

Bowriders are freshwater/lake boats that are built lighter and lack the features above.

Dual consoles will last longer and hold better resale value, but might be more boat than you need.

Pay attention to the deadrise if you boat in choppy water. Hurricane is a fine lake boat, but not the great lakes. It's only a semi-V bottom.
