outboard controls

I have a 1979 merc 80 hp the neutral lockbar (i think is broke) what type of control box should i get to replace this with out having to order a bunch of other stuff to make it work? or are there replacement parts availible for control boxes? any help is appreciated.

Whatever control box goes with your motor. Mercury boxes work with Mercury, OMC control boxes work with OMC, etc. The cable connections vary with manufacturer.
There is also after market controls that can be used with adapters for your particular motor.
