Re: outboard cover
when not in use i leave my 14ft speed boat on its trailer parked on my drive.the boat has its original cover which covers the boat but not the outboard.is
1 - it best not to cover the outboard because of condensation.
2 - i'm intending on leaving the boat on the drive for the winter.is there anything i should buy to protect the boat and ob from the winter elements.
3 - should i winterise the ob......thanks
1 - they make covers for outboards. I use them all the time, I believe they're made to breath. I bought mine from Cabelas, but I'd bet this site has them.
2 - make sure all water is drained from boat and engine. Make sure water can't collect (keep boat tilted nose up, with all drains open). Make sure that anything that might be damaged by snow, freezing or rain is removed or protected. Your cover might work just fine. I don't have one, so I just cover mine with a tarp pulled over a frame I made that forms a peaked tent-like structure. It's just metal sawhorse leg brackets with long 2X4s making the legs - with a long 2X8 spanning them. Imagine a 4' tall sawhorse with the cross member being 10 feet long. I just set the 'sawhorse"/ tent frame on the floor of the boat, pull the tarp over it and over the windshield in front, and bungie in place using trailer frame. Really, except for frozen water, there's not much that winter will do to harm a boat or motor.
3 - yes. Check the FAQ for instructions; it's easy.
