Outboard flew off!!!!

Ok so i bought this 65hp merc had it clamped down and was testing it on the lake, i let me cousin drive for a min he turned and the whole outboard flew off, luckily we were able to save it and pull it up. It was atleast 5 feet in the water for about 2 min. What should i do to it now?? it still fires but dont want to run it unless i know somthing isnt gonna mess up.

How long ago? Why haven't you posted in Stupid Human Tricks yet? <br /><br />"Still fires" does that mean it started? That's good. Run it up to operating temp - it'll get hot enough to dry everything off.<br /><br />Have ya figured out why it fell off?

Well it was only clamped down not bolted for testing purposes then my idiot cousin decided to romp on it when i told him not to and the rest is history... We got the motor back on the boat and ran it for a couple of seconds, but now the disp. cap is broke so i cant fire it up, do i just take regular car motor oil and dump in there and spray wd40 in the carb?

Ok so today i sprayed a bunch of WD40 in the cylinders and carb got it started and let it run for a half an hour seemed like it was doing fine. Well seen when I take it out on the lake again (bolted down this time of course!!!)

you got darn lucky. when you get the results. it would be nice to post the story in stuid human tricks. you also learned how much torque and power you have.
