Outboard installation problem

Hello,

I have recently bought a Suzuki DF 90 and authorised dealer installed it but wrong.:mad:
The motor is not in centar of the transom but around 0.55 inch (14mm) moved to the right, looked from behind. Anticavitation plate is even with the lowest point of the boat. I was thinking to move the motor and drill 4 new holes but the screw is so big that there is a big chance i will make one big hole from two smaller ones.
Is this a problem or should I ignore it?

Was there a motor on it before? Did the dealer use existing mount holes?

How are you determining what the center of the transom is?
Measurement across the top and divide by 2?
Center of drain hole?
Bottom point of V-hull?

Yes there was but it was Merc 500 from 1974 so the dealer made 4 new holes because old ones didn`t fit.
They said that they made a mistake but if I insist on moving the motor by 1 cm they need to plug the holes with fibre and then drill again.
Am I going to have some problems with this or not?

Best regards

It is just a bit more than 1/2 inch off. I doubt it will make any noticable difference.

I doubt it will even be noticable. Kinda stinks when you pay someone to do it and its not right but the fix is to drill more hole which I wouldn't want to do, you already have 8 there. Did they fill the old ones? I don't think I would ever use that shop again though, their attention to detail isn't very good.

Good point. How and with what did they fill the old holes? (And how and with what did they seal around the new through bolts?) I'd be more concerned with that than a 1/2" off-center on the new motor.

Re: Outboard installation problem

The installation was included in the price of the motor and I was forced to let them install the motor because there are 3 years of warranty but it is only valid if authorized mechanic installs it.
I was there almost during whole installation but not when he drilled the holes.. , after was too late.
The old holes I filled with marine silicone glue and sealed it with fiber.
Also I sealed the new holes with silicone glue, around the screws and between the transom and the motor.
It really annoys me the lack of care from there side, I am not going back that for sure.
If you want to do it right, do it yourself..;)

Thanks for the help, I hope there won`t be problems.

Best regards

if foot is center of the keel leave it alone, you hull is out of center .55, which is not unusual. i say quit whining, and go boating.
