01 150H.P. Evinrude outboard runs great but has momentary jumps to 16+ Volts and the alarm buzzer and warning light goes on...

If I power down it shuts off and runs fine for a while before doing it again...

Called the mechanic and he dosen't think its the Voltage Regulator but a bad ground somewhere....Any suggestions?

Re: Outboard making 16 Volts

Which warning light comes on?

If it is a CHECK ENGINE light, then an error code is stored in the computer's memory that can be accessed using the diagnostic software that a dealer has.

If it is an overvoltage condition, then the engine computer will probably need being sent out for repair.

If the motor has a history of overheats or computer overheats, that might have contributed to the problem.

My guess would be you have a battery on its' way out, try another battery.

I was thinking the same thing.
Mine used to show 15.4 volts or more.Changed the battery out the next season and it never has gone that high again.
