Forget which thread I was reading but there were some pics of an o/b that a member had painted. It was a 50 hp mounted to an alum, probably 16 footer or thereabouts.

The o/b was attached to what appeared to be a motor mount, much like that used for a kicker. The mount was bolted to the transom.

I am rebuilding a 16' alum (being a newbie) and wonder what's the purpose of putting an o/b on a mount rather than just clamping it down to the transom ?
The o/b appeared to remote steer with no trim/tilt.

Just wondering.....

Re: Outboard Motor Mount ?

That is a homemade ? jack plate. It permits the outboard to attain slightly better performance buy placing the prop in clear water (not disturbed by the boat turbulance). Some people use these to make up for an incorrect shaft size.

What are you going to mount for an outboard? I thought your primary goal was a fishing boat. IMO if you had an outboard mounted on the transom.... stay with it the way it is.

I plan to run a 35hp at most. That's max per the mfg. Can't exceed that for the inspection anyhow. I'll have the correct shaft length and prop so I'll have no need for a jack plate. I was just wondering what the deal was. I'm trying to answer the majority of my questions by reading all of the forums rather than asking members to repeat themselves time after time. I hate to appear the dumbie.................;)

Thanks for your response..

Re: Outboard Motor Mount ?

That is pic of my boat, it is a CMC tilt trim, the motor came with no TT and that is the easiest least expensive way to add TT.

Also the 6'' setback lets me run the motor a little higher.

some use the CMC, unit for motors that do not have trim n tilt, it is cheaper than buying another motor and easier than converting the motor. http://www.iboats.com/CMC_Power_Til...59951643--**********.632421237--view_id.13581

I love this site !!!!! :)

So if I purchase a motor that has no T/T built in, and I want to make life easier for me and my back, this gizmo is the way to go.

AGAIN; Many Thanks.......................;)
