I'm looking for a motor for my 14 foot aluminum fishing boat. What do I measure to determine shaft length I need? :) What is standard for fishing boat? Short or long shaft.
 I found my answer in search. Next time I will know to look first.
Thanks
Duane

Measure from the center of the transom to the bottom of the boat. If it's 15" (+-), you need a short shaft engine. If it's 20" (+-), you need a long shaft. If it's 25" (+-), you have a very unusual 14' boat.

c/6

Hooty

Midnight, do you have a wide beam 14' or just the standard john boat. Where in Texas are you. This has nothing to do with shaft length but I've got a real nice 30hp. Evinrude with electric start and a stainless prop.

Walker:
I live in Odessa. My boat is not a John boat. It's a Ouachita. It is wide and deep like the old lonestar. I am leaning toward Merc 20 or 25. It has a 10 hp Merc on it now. Just not quite fast enough. What are you asking for your motor?
Duane

Midnight, I was going to ask $800 for it but I'd take 700 with 30 day return guarantee.
