I need to move my engine up a notch . Look for the correct torque for mounting it back to the transom . If it matters it s a 2000 Johnson 250

Re: outboard mounting

I have never torqued the motor bolts.

I go tight with nylock nuts.

There is not too much that those bolts do except hold the motor aligned and tight to the transom. The motor when running puts the pressure on the hull/transom.

Oh yeah be sure to use 3m 4000 or equal to seal the bolts.

Re: outboard mounting

Well 5200 is permanent and I have seen people have to drive the bolts ou with a punch which then bugger's up the threads :(

Since you are changing positions........ it would make more sense in my book to go with something removable for now. ;)

Re: outboard mounting

I have been wrenching on things all my life and never understood the concern about torque, except when mashing down on a gasket perhaps, and I've never done a head gasket, just thermostats, oil pans, etc. I understand the need to tighten down a series of bolts across from each other, too. I know finger tight, hand tight, and imbed the washer into the wood tight. Other than wringing off the nut, or being too loose, how much does it matter for general fixin'?
