Never saw one till today. I was coming in and saw a boat at the dock facing toward me. It was smoking like a freight train. I knew from the front that it was a late 80's I/O bowrider. I figured his engine was on it's last leg. I came around behind it and was surprised to see an ancient looking outboard on it attached to the boat with a jackplate about 3 ft long. It was a homemade job, you could easily see where the I/O was.

Re: Outboard on I/O?

I have seen several in the past. A couple of years ago, a guy with a 24' cuddy pulled into the docks. It had the extension with an old Merc on it. He said he wanted a boat and found the hull and trailer, but it had no motor. Said he got paid $200 to haul it away. He then went on to say that during the following winter he was paid to clean out a garage. Was told he could have anything that was in there. That is where he found the old Merc.

During the winter months, he came up with a plan to mount the Merc on the boat he was paid to take away. He used the money that they paid him with to buy the materials to do the job. Actually it looked like it was supposed to be that way. It looked that good. I have seen others, but not on a 24'er..........SS

I have seen that several times at Santee Cooper..............The rigs I saw were tied into the out drive for steering control..................I assumed for trolling....
