Outboard on ski centurion barefoot warrior

I am looking to repower a 1987 ski centurion barefoot warrior, does anyone know the correct shaft legth this boat should have? (20" 25") any benefits to brands? I was told the mercury motors arent as good for skiing cuz they lack the torque and are for high rpm go fast not low rpm ski cruising speeds. The yamahas seem to get the nod for skiing but may have some issues with very low (wakeboard) speeds.
