Good evening everyone, wondering if outboard overheat alarms ,just the physical 12v alarm, buzzer Item, are outboard and wiring harnesses specific? My thought is, it’s just a loud 12v buzzer powered by a temperature sensor. Why couldnt I put a motorcycle horn in or a 12v strobe, or both? Maybe that “master alarm” sound from Apollo 13 and a red light. Or a device with prerecorded mechanic profanity combinations. Thanks for you input.

Overheat sensors on most outboards ground when an overheat is detected. So any warning device can be wired in series with the sensor and battery. You will want something waterproof and anti-sparking.
