I have a 90 bayliner capri with an outboard Force motor (prop). I have always been curious if i could launch my boat in the river by my house. For specific location the river is the snake river in American Falls Idaho. i see boats on the river all the time even ski boats but am not sure if you need to have a jet motor or what? Thanks for your input.

Re: outboard prop motor on a river

Generally an inboard ski boat will draw at least as much water as an outboard, and an outboard has the advantage of being able to tilt up the engine if necessary.
It doesn't matter if you're on a lake or river; the only thing that matters is the depth of the water and if there are any obstructions that could be hit by your prop.
If you see other prop-driven boats traveling the river, you can probably go wherever they go.

If in doubt, ask someone at a local ramp for advice.

Traveling a river can be relaxing. Just remember you may have enough water under boat, but there could a be log down there too. Go slow until you know the river. Common sense goes a long way..

Safe boating
