Sorry about the bad link and incomplete info from previous discussion. Anyway, the following link is the data page of the boat that I'm trying to convert from tiller to remote steering. It has a 2000 30 hp merc with electric start and oil injection.

http://www.lowe.com/fishboats/angler/AN140T.html

I will be getting throttle and shift cables. However, I'm having trouble identifying the attachment kit required to enable me to mount them. According to Merc's Part Express Website, the following jpeg is the "Remote Control Attaching Kit" for my make and model outboard. Not sure if it's the hardware to attach remote throttle controls or remote shifting controls ( or perhaps both ). Contacted 2 authorized mercury dealers and they have no clue. Hope someone can clarify.

http://forums.fishontario.com/servlet/JiveServlet/download/1-13709-80961-2804/Remote_Kit.JPG

hello
that kit is for both shift and throttle. you will also need a control box and a steering helm kit and a drag link and a steering wheel.
is your current motor electric start ?

Thanks for the info. The outboard is a 30hp 2-stroke merc with electric start. I'm having the console custom made. Hopefully the jpeg in the following link shows all the components I'll be needing.

http://forums.fishontario.com/servlet/JiveServlet/download/1-13709-80961-2810/Remote_Kit.JPG

Please let me know if I'm missing anything.

hello
your still going to need the drag link between the steering cable end and the steering bracket. you will need the correct control box with wiring harness if you wish to make it a key start at the box or an ign harness with keyswitch for panel mount.
its been a while since I converted on. does yours have the keyswitch assy for starting or is it push button on the cowl ? also does your motor have the tempsensor in the head for overheat?

Re: Outboard Remote Control Kit

Thanks again RodBolt:

the motor has a keyswitch ignition assembly. If you click on the link, you'll see a photo of the control panel and ignition switch.

http://forums.fishontario.com/servlet/JiveServlet/download/1-13709-81276-2814/Control+Panel.JPG

A buddy of mine is an electrician and he's going to help me extend all the wires so I can mount that panel onto the console. I'm not sure if the motor has a temperature sensor. I guess I should ask the following:

1/ Is the temp sensor vital for the conversion?

2/ Can't seem to find any "drag links" in all of the marine stores if checked. Not even at mercury's website. Where would I find one?

Re: Outboard Remote Control Kit

a temp switch is not nessasary. you may have a warning horn already in the box you have. some did. I dont reccomend extending the wires, to many splices. while your buying the box just buy the correct one from merc and its a done deal.
the motor end is a standard merc plug. most any commander series sidemount will work. last one I bought without trim was about 250 or so.
the drag link is going to be listed under the accessories catalog. but you will have to have one and they do make them. :) :)
keep hunting :)
