Could you tell from this picture if the outboard is at the right height ?

TaiTai outboard leg picture

I have read in the forum that position of the cavitation plate is adjusted in relation to the bottom of the hull... I really dont know anything about this topic... an explanation of the importance will be also helpful...

thanks in advance

Re: outboard right height ?

If you had the motor in a vertical position, it would be easier to tell. It looks a bit low right now. Tilt it out until it's vertical and check to see where it is in relation to the transom bottom. You would want it even for the most part, with the bottom of the hull, when the motor is straight up and down. Not following the transom angle. It's really trial and error anyway, as most will run better higher than the transom bottom. I'd raise it an inch and see how it runs for starters. Post another pic with the motor straight up and down(Vertical).

Re: outboard right height ?

Too low, it will slow you down by having to much of the lower unit in the water and possibly lug the engine below it's designed RPM range. Too high, the prop may ventilate and not "Hook up" in the water correctly. You may also lose water pressure from the intakes being high enough to suck air instead of water. There are other factors, as well.

Re: outboard right height ?

I will take better pictures today, and will try to level the outboard (hope I will do it ok, as the boat is on the ground and maybe the supports are not leveled...I guess that I need to immagine that the boat is leveled and then put the ouboard perpendicular to the bottom of the boat?)

If I need to rise the engine a little bit, what is the procedure to do it ??

Looks to me like you could mount it at least an inch higher. as it sits I am willing to bet the cav plate is 1/2 to 1 inch lower the the hull bottom.
