Hi,

I just got my Johnson 50 running and it is revving to approx. 6100 RPM at WOT. The range is 4500-5500. With another person in the boat it revs to maybe 5800-5900. Current prop is a 12.5X13. would you recommend a 12.25X15 or 12X17?

I know the standard 200 RPM per inch of pitch rule but does anyone have any real world experience with this? Especially since all available props with increased pitch drop a bit in diameter.

Thanks

Find a good local prop shop. Most will let you try different pitches if you buy from them. Dont try there then buy on the net, that will just ruin it for everyone.

I'd start with the 17 being that you didnt describe anything else.

What boat? What mounting holes? Is cav plate at bottom, or slightly above or below bottom of boat? What model 50hp are you running? Max rpm attained trimmed or with motor down all the way?
A lot goes into any recommendation...
