Anyone have any experience installing outboards on podded boats where the pod is not the full depth of the main keel???

I have a 20' welded aluminum boat where there is about a six inch step up to the bottom of the swim grid style pod from the depth of the main keel. I'm trying to figure out if the cavitation plate of the outboard should sit just below the depth of the pod or just below the depth of the keel. This would mean a 20" shaft one way and a 25" shaft the other. Anyone have any experience/recommendations with this setup?

Thanks!

Sorry about that - read first/post second. Reading previous posts more closely I beleive the answer is go with the 25" shaft to get to the bottom of the main keel.

For the engine to perform as designed, it has to have a clean input of non-turbulent water. Anything that deviates from that causes ventilation problems and have to be overcome with things like setup and fancy props.

Also you can't have any (much of any) boat in front of the prop because at any speed, the boat blocks the water from the blades of the prop and it will just crap out from ventilation.

Help?
