I have a 10 ft sea nymph v hull. I was wondering if a 6 hp two stroke would be to much for it. the coast guard saftey card says 5 hp max. I know a 5 and a 6 weigh the same. My thought was when getting into rougher waters out here in sd bay the 6 would jump up and down on the transom ripping and tearing it apart. I would like some input on it please.

Howdy patridger.

You probably would notice no difference between the 5 and the 6 EXCEPT if you had an incident. Then you might be in trouble if you were 20% overpowered.

Re: outboard size

Just to be clear, it is the torque the engine puts on the transom that is rated not the weight, think ofthe engine as a giant lever, it is attached to the boat on one and and force is applied to the other end.

Make sure you transom is in good shape and I think you will be fine with the 6, it is such a small over I don't think it will matter excluduing legal stuff
