As was mentioned already, contact then join the Association of Marine Technicians (AMTECH) and take part in their seminars, schools, and trade show. They also have many tech school members who train mechanics also.
Go to their website AMTECH - Association of Marine Technicians and click on SCHOOLS for more info or call them:

Don't think you'll be a top notch tech after a year of school and you won't command the top wages either. Ask Rodbolt how many years of experience and self-study was needed to become one of the nation's top Yamaha techs, and one of the first to pass the Yamaha Certification tests.
One person told me years ago, become a marine mechanic if you love boats and repairing them, and you do not need to support a family on those wage.
