Wondering if anyone has a "neat little jig" or home made tool to remove the lower bushing from a shock absorber (Mercury outboard, 1963 65 hp). The upper bushing is two pieces, one installed on either side of the pin or shaft that the shock absorber connects with, but the lower one appears to be a solid, one piece rubber that was probably factory pressed in. Without a press of my own, I am trying to figure out how to remove them. I have a few ideas, but knowing that there are folks who have done this, I'm looking for the sage advice that only you fine people can offer.

I know, again, no pictures...will I ever learn?

Ok, ok, i finally figured out how to remove them...once i get the new ones, I can just cut the old ones out... on the PLUS side, i saw a video of a guy replacing them with silicon lube, a hose clamp, a nut and bolt with washer, and a hammer.....can't wait to try it myself!!!

Ayuh,...... A trick Don S taught me years ago is,....

When stuffin' rubber things into/ onto tight spots,....
A quick spray of Quicksiler Power Tune causes it to be Super Slippery, but drys in a few seconds, lockin' the rubber part in-place,....

ok, update required... I received the new bushings, and both upper and ler were already split. When I pulled the old ones off, they too were split, so I didn't have to check out Don S's trick (although, everything I've read from him says it would have worked, no doubt!).

Another crisis averted...onto the next one!
