Outboard trying to turn right

Hi,

I've got new Teleflex steering on my boat, which I fitted in the winter, ready for the new season.

I've also recently had to change prop, as a result of damage caused by a bit of driftwood.

The challenge I'm having is that if even take my hand off the wheel for even one second, the wheel begins spinning, as the outboard immediately turns the boat right.

The other problem this is causing is that it's very tiring holding the wheel against the outboard trying to turn the boat right, yet when I turn left, it's lovely and light.

It didn't used to do this before but, the old steering was extremely heavy, hence changing it.

How can I stop this happening? I want the wheel to be able to stay straight (or, like most boats, slowly drift off to the right).

You may have had "No feed back" steering. That would hold against the pull of the motor.

Now you have conventional steering, where you feel the pull.

Adjust the zinc anode to counteract the torque or trim up the motor to lessen the pull.

There are other ways as well.

It was good old Telestar fashioned rack and pinion however, the unit was a sealed unit and had to be chucked. Definitely wasn't no feedback.

There is a strong pull from the engine now, which is what I'm really not enjoying. It's tiring holding the wheel in place.

I can adjust the torque trim tab. Should that solve it? Which way is which (I.e. trim tab pointed to starboard pushes what was?). The outboard is a conventional clockwise rotation.

Move the trailing edge of the trim tab towards the Starboard side.

The trim tab does not steer the boat directly it steers the motor which then steers the boat.
The 'extra step' can seem counter intuitive to some.
