outboard went under in ocean water

I have a gamefisher 3 HP as a kicker for my sailboat. I took a spill over the weekend and before I could get my boat upright again my motor went under and was underwater for about 30 seconds. I tried to start it immediately which is what I've been told. It wouldn't start. When I got home I tried again it wouldn't start. It was much heavier to pull as well. I throughly washed everything in freshwater. This morning when I tried it pulled with the same resistance as normal, but wouldn't crank. It is an air cooled motor. I tried using fast start (ether) spray, but still no luck. I wondered if the contact points might have a small amount of rust. Any suggestions or should I carry it to the shop?

So, today being Thursday and it went swimming over the weekend, that makes 2 or three days and another undetermined amount of time to get somebody to repair it. It is probably junk by now. General rule is it has to be gotten running or totally disassembled and cleaned within 24 hours.

Um, er, F_R. I don't know where you are, but in Texas it is Tuesday.

Long John. You may have drowned the mag or the carb, but if ether didn't get it to start it is probably the mag. Check it for spark.

BTW, never use ether in a 2 stroke. It is deadly on bearings because it has no lubrication. Use fuel mix.
