I am getting ready to repower a 34' Scarab with twin outboards. I need some recommendations on engines, related equipment needs and cost expectations.

------------------
Mike

Re: Outboards for a Scarab

Everyone locally seems to use twin 250's .Mercury usually goes with SCARABs; but you decide.I have a 26 foot SCARAB center console with a single Mercury 225hp and I can do 50 mph easily.Mine rotates LH .My friends have 30 foot scarabs center console called SPORTs with twin motors .They switched to 4 strokes to save fuel costs alleging fuel savings will pay for their $20,000 motors.Mine is a 225 single 2 stroke BLACK MAX.We all use symthetic oil to produce less smoke etc. Goodluck.

Mikey, My neighbor has a 35 foot Scarab Super Sport. He has twin 454 Mercruisers, 330 HP Each. That boat will cruise at about 50 MPH, and that power really can assist you in rough seas. We were able to plane in 8 foot seas by sesawing the throttles to keep the hull in the water. The twin 250 Mercs are probably the minimum for that hull, if you want it to perform.
