Re: outboards vrs inboards

I bought my first and last inboard because:

Never had one
High transom
Smooth and quiet
Good fuel economy as compared to cross flow engines available at the time
Boat was a restoration project and was at a reasonable price. Plus wanted the experience and pride of the project

Nowadays things are very different. No reason not to go OB

Inboard's main objection was if you had to do any work on the engine it was a real bear and I was always worried about gas leaks.
Also the tubes connecting the engine and outdrive were almost impossible to replace.

But there are millions of them out there and I'd assume most are happy with them......especially if they can afford to have someone else work on them. 8)

inboard is way to expensive to fix things and cost alot of money to get repaired if there is an issue:/

Re: outboards vrs inboards

I loved my 4cyl OMC Cobra because it was a car engine. All my tools and testers (small engine mech) would work on it. I did not find it too expensive to work on.

I hated my 4cyl OMC Cobra because at the end of the season I had to pull the boat off the water before I was done boating. The winterization was a big hassle (2-3 hours). You do not know when it was going to get cold. Most people around here winterize at the end of Sept with inboards, who do not have heated storage. With an outboard you pull it out of the water and there is little chance of freezing with the engine in the down postion.

I find it funny that you posted this in the OUTBOARD forum.
Still an outboard is noticeably better.

Double posts are very confusing.

Since this is about both outboard and I/O it doesn't belong here or in the I/O Forum, but does belong in the Boat Forum.

It is there. Please use that one.
