A huge problem around here (i.e. Scandinavia).

Bolt locks, alarms, tracking devices, indoor storage, etc. will deter the impulsive or amateur thief.

Nothing will stop the determined professional thief.

F'n thieves got me once. For the longest time I would use the channel locking system that covers the twist clamps but they rust something fierce. Not one month after using just a cable and lock my 9.9 was lost. It's easy to cut a cable or lock but not so much with the channel system. Best bet is to keap your small outboards in the garage. Out of sight, out of mind.

That is a good question. I have a 150hp outboard and plan on keeping my boat in a boatyard when the season opens in the spring. Since I wont be towing it home every week I'm concerned now about that too now.

Use duct tape . put some around the cowl make it look like it is holding the cowl on. Wrap some around the leg. some over where the prop attaches. Make it look worthless. :D:D:D After losing many many measuring tapes on the job I bought a new one and wraped it with black tape. I t lasted me 4 years before : I really did lose it.:D
