Outdrive bellows replacement question

Soon i have to replace my outdrive bellows.

i have a question about the bellow installation.

every bellow has a small metal strip with two piercing point.

Can somebody tell me what the function is off these small metal strips ?

On the bellow two strips at the beginning and end.

They are continuity tabs for the clamps. The u joint bellows should be labeled "TOP" at the fwd side and the clip should be near said label.

The tabs pierce the gimbal housing and bell housing so the clamps don't suffer from corrosion. This is of course considering the entire continuity strap system for the transom assembly is sound
